At the Aquarium

We visited The New England Aquarium in Boston, back in May of last year.  The only camera I had with me was my iPhone 7+.  Given the fact that the aquarium is always so dark inside, I was amazed at how some of the photos turned out.  This little guy above is not the cutest thing in the world, but he sure is interesting.

The Jellyfish in the above 2 photos are by far, my favorites.  I really could watch them for hours, and never get tired of them.  There is something so hypnotic about them.

A school (or several schools) of Smelts.  There were literally thousands in this tank, and their swimming pattern was really interesting.  They would very rhythmically slow down…

…and then speed up to a point where they became just a blur.

  7. Lisa, these are beautiful! They are so clear that it seems as if you were underwater with the fish. I too love the Camera+ app (and that Macro function!) but these photos make me want to upgrade my iPhone. The newer models’ cameras are much improved over my 5s. I haven’t been to an aquarium in years, but the jellyfish were always my favorites. They are so ethereal looking, and their movements are indeed hypnotic.

    • Thank you, Cathy!
Even though it’s always very crowded, the aquarium is such a wonderfully relaxing place to be.
On this particular day, the visit was not planned, but the weather outside was not at all cooperating, so it was the perfect place to be.
Happy day to you, and thank you for your visit and kind comment.

  11. I love these pictures Lisa and I’ve been hearing great things about that Iphone 7+, particularly the portrait feature:-). I feel like I could reach out and touch them. We love going to the aquarium with the boys and see their faces light up and we also love the jelly fish.

    • For me, most of the fun at the aquarium is watching all of the little ones as they see all of the different exhibits. It’s really a wonderful experience.
Thank you so much for your visit and kind comment, Stacey.

  13. What amazing images and all with your phone. I love the pictures of the jellyfish and the blurred movement of the fish. Jellyfish are so elegant in the way that they move. I could watch them for hours too.

    • These images are just wonderful Lisa – you captured them so beautifully. I love how you’ve captured the movement of the fish. (I’ve been missing your posts in my WordPress reader for some time now and it turns out that somehow I wasn’t following you – I don’t know how that happened as I’m pretty sure I didn’t stop following you, but I’ve now rectified the situation… !)

    • Thank you, Jennifer!
There are so many different kinds of jellyfish there. For some reason, these just caught my attention.
They just seemed to glow so beautifully.

  14. were you using the ProCamera app? if so, what settings, please

    • No, Daryl, for the most part, I use Camera+, and that is what I used for these. The settings were whatever the default is, because I was just kind of snapping away (not thinking of any technical stuff), really not expecting to get much of anything. I really like Camera+, and it has a macro setting on it that is just PHENOMENAL!!!
      xo.

I attached a photo here that was taken using the Camera+ macro setting. It’s a nothing photo, but it gives you an idea of just how good it works.

  17. Those are great! I’ve never been able to get good aquarium shots. The little interesting guy looks pretty cute to me.

    • I really did not think I would get any good shots, Candace. It is so dark in there. However, the tanks are very well lit, so I am guessing that is why they turned out the way they did.
Thank you so much for your visit and kind comment.

  23. I love aquariums! I had a Lion Fish in a large salt-water aquarium for years. He was actually quite tame and would follow me in the tank when I moved in the room. I had to be careful not to get stung! Great images!

Those rapidly moving fish are wonderful too – another natural abstract! Such a lovely change of subjects in this posting, Lisa!

  37. These images are remarkable and taken with your iPhone! Wow. I love those jelly fish. I’m used to seeing them stranded on the beach and they simply look like a flat lifeless blob on the beach. How beautiful to see them in your photos. Lovely indeed.
